Those who know me know i’m such a sucker for well-crafted travel accessories. You’ll find me constantly browsing sites on the prowl for some new nifty accessories that look good and work well. So when Urby sent us a pair of their Urby Passport Holder in Mr and Mrs, you can only imagine how thrilled I was. (For a minimalist, I love unboxing things way too much). So there it was, a neat little black package that arrived among other Diwali gifts, sitting on our console for a few days, tempting me to open it, but I wanted to do a proper unboxing for you guys, so we waited till the weekend we were back from our trip to Bikaner. Neatly packed within a duster bag were two gorgeous passport holders.
When it comes to our travel style as a couple, Charles and I are pretty organised, we’ve got our digital boarding passes (and paper back ups just incase) as well as a few different currencies, forex cards, credit cards, SIM cards and mobile pins, business cards, and of course, passports. Now when you multiply all of the above, by two people, you’ll realise it’s quite a bit and organising it efficiently so you don’t have to pull out a million things each time you need one can be tricky. So we definitely didn’t want one of those passport holders that’s nothing more than a bulky book cover. We wanted one that did a little more.
For a sleek and compact case, the Urby passport holder looked deceptively bare. But we soon realised it’s packed with slots both on the inside as well as the back cover for cards, cash and more. And they weren’t too snug (not making you tear your business cards like most slots do). For once, Charles was quite happy with the utility value of a product.
I on the other hand, tend to focus more on the aesthetics. Why? Let me paint you a picture. We’re travelling together, Charles is carrying the camera bag or wheeling the cabin luggage, and guess where his wallet and passport end up? That’s right, in my purse. (You know the drill, ladies). So I definitely didn’t want something rugged, made of canvas or bulky. The leather finish of the Urby passport holder sealed the deal for me, since the grain goes so well with my current favourite – my Aigner Cybil that I picked up in Germany this Spring. I also loved that the Mr. and Mrs. pair comes in Black and White (those who know us, know just how much everything in our life is all black and white) and has an elegant monogram on the bottom corner (and no tacky Mr. and Mrs. actually spelt out). The stitching is neat and tight, so it definitely looks like a quality piece.
So it seems like we’re all set for our next international adventure (stay tuned for the Instagram announcement to find out where we’re headed). What about you? Where are you off to next and what are your travel essentials?
