Who’s behind the Different Doors door?

So on the next trip, I think we should…

Hello there! It’s wonderful to meet you.

Who are we?

We’re Revati and Charles from Mumbai, India. We’re advertising people by profession, cooks by passion, and travellers at heart. We believe in travelling close to the ground, not signing up for travel tours, living like locals as far as possible, making detailed plans (and throwing them away we need to), diving into research, living it up when we can, living it down when we need to, finding rarely visited secrets, experimenting with food, learning a little of the local cuisine and travelling slow. [ Added by Charles: I also believe in beer!]

What is Different Doors?

Different Doors is about our experience travelling around the world. But it’s also more than that. We want to find a way to make your travel better too. By sharing things we’ve learned, telling you about things you may not find in a guide book or even giving you tips on finding great deals. And if you can’t find it here, please feel free to contact us. We’d be happy to personally help in any way we can.

Us on us

Charles on Revati: There are times when I think she’s actually more obsessed about food than about me! She’s about discovering diversity, while I’m about exploring just a couple of things. She’s a methodical cook, taking classes whenever she can to understanding the process, and follows the rules while cooking. Which is probably why she’s good at it. She complains that her travelling companion is actually a camera but secretly loves the fact that I shoot so much! She claims she’s a big shopper but she really isn’t. She’s also responsible for my wardrobe (expect for my obsession with red tees!). She can’t pack! But all the important things we need when we travel are usually things she’s brought along. She doesn’t like beer.

Revati on Charles: Charles is probably the reason we get to do all the things most people just plan for that someday that never comes. He’s a doer, and when it comes to travel an extremely meticulous researcher and planner. He’s the reason we have so many beautiful pictures from every trip, the reason we don’t end up having to change plans (because he has foreseen all eventualities and has a back- up plan for everything), the reason I notice a lot of breathtaking things that I would normally have missed, and the reason I love to travel. The thing with Charles is, he spoils you as a travel companion. Once you’ve travelled with him, you’ll never want to travel without him. He’s a storehouse of useless information, which can sometimes be useful, entertaining or both. He’s always cheerful and never has an off day; he believes travel time is too precious to waste. Oh, and he never complains about shopping. Ever.
