Beach holidays, as mentioned in the Mauritius Guide, are all about where you stay, because you seldom want to wander far from the shore. And we were well, lucky enough to have that picked out for us. Picked out and gifted. For two people who love planning vacations and trips, we’re actually glad we didn’t get the time to plan this one out, it laid out the red carpet for a lot of surprises and spontaneity.
Newlyweds looking for a private experience on the West coast, will find it at the The Maradiva Villas Resort and Spa, Mauritius. That cliche about marriages being made in heaven? Well, this one most certainly was celebrated in heaven. We enjoyed the best of nature, in the lap of luxury.
An hour from the international airport, this indulgent resort overlooks the turquoise blue waters of Tamarin Bay. There are 65 discreetly arranged beachfront, garden view, or ocean access villas with 24 hour butler service. Every villa is constructed so while guests have an uninterrupted view of the gardens and is completely open to the elements, nobody can actually look into any villa or its open areas. How about that for first class privacy? Each villa comes with a luxurious bedroom, and a tranquil terrace area for al-fresco dining, lounging on the daybed or taking a dip in the private plunge pool. The lovely Malagasy accents make you feel like you are, truly at the heart of exotic luxury. The pool is small, but perfect for a couple to splash about in. The bedroom, or rather, the bed, overlooks this pool. The bedroom is bright, and luxurious, and the bed is unbelievably soft and cosy. The villas also come with a personal bar, Nespresso coffee machine and Bose Home Cinema System with an Ipod dock. An oversized bath, separate rain shower and toilet, walk in wardrobe and outdoor garden shower furnish the bathrooms. The bath is just so glamorous, especially when lit with candles for a long slow soak in the tub at nights. With a his and hers sink, a separate toilet and, the piece de resistance; a huge walk in closet. There’s even a lovely outdoor shower area, that’s accessible from the bathroom or the main villa door lest you drag in all that sand from the beach. Oh, and there are invisible elves that come and do up your room about 20 times a day. Leaving a little delicious gift on their way out each time. If we were wowed by the villa in the daytime, may it be noted, the place looks all the more magical by night.
In-villa service aside, the dining options at Maradiva include Coast 2 Coast- an all day restaurant serving the most innovative Mauritian, Mediterranean and International Cuisine. One of the resort’s two restaurants overlooks the sea. Making for the most delicious breakfast on the island, in the company of the sweetest and most polite little birds, who delicately take the tidbits you offer them, but never crowd or annoy. The Pan-Asian dinner only restaurant Cilantro offers a teppanyaki bar accompanied by live Asian music. The Breakers Bar at the poolside serves up wonderful salad lunches and refreshingly innovative cocktails. On the beachfront, the Beach Bar makes the beach-bumming experience oh-so luxe.
Lunch is followed by a lovely long siesta in the sun, by the pool. There is so much you can do at the beach, paddle, ski, speedboat rides, swim, ride a horse or just sit in the shade and enjoy the gorgeous shades of blue. All with full service, of course. For the glamorous, Maradiva’s pop up store offers bespoke beachwear from the hippest designers across the globe. To make your experience even more indulgent, Maradiva offers a selection of Indian heritage treatments and yoga sessions at their luxurious spa which also offers massages at their gorgeous beachfront garden gazebos. Getting around this large resort is easy with complimentary use of their bicycles and chauffeur driven buggies. While a stay at this utopian paradise in paradise country costs a pretty penny, it is well worth every bit.
