Dubai. Definitely the kind of place you want to see through the lens of luxury. It’s glitzy, glamorous, and everyone around is dripping with bling. Chrome plated sports cars, monogrammed handbags and anything else that sends out the message that money can truly buy everything. The need to stay at a swish star hotel, with incredible views of the cityscape was pertinent. So we picked the Intercontinental Dubai Festival City. And we used our IHG Rewards points to book awards nights here.
We landed into Dubai around 3 am, and it was so convenient to be whisked away from the airport to the hotel within 10 minutes. The iconic curving structure of the Intercontinental hotel, we would soon realise could be identified from a long distance away. It’s a lovely feeling, being able to see your home from everywhere you roam around the city. The driveway of the hotel was always lined with ostentatious luxury cars. I could tell by the way Charles would always go quiet mid-sentence, that he was pretty distracted each time we passed them.
Our room had a city view, and the long corridor after the door was kind of strange. But one look at our table and we were thrilled. Scattered among rose petals sat a red velvet box of the softest, most droolicious chocolates we’ve had in a while. The television screen welcomed Charles with an array of promotions and events happening at the hotel. The bathroom (which is strangely the first thing we always check out) was as large as the room itself. The highlight was definitely the overhead stream of water that feel right from the ceiling into the bathtub. (Gasp!)
After a wonderful night’s sleep (we were out the instant our heads hit the soft pillows) we woke up to a view of the morning sun blazing over the Dubai skyline. Breakfast was at the multi-cuisine restaurant – Anise. We managed to scramble in just in time before they shut service. And in true Dubai style, nothing was too much. An array of Lebanese, Continental, Indian and so many other delicacies vied for our attention.
We loved that the hotel had its own private exit into the Festival City Mall. Naturally, the first day saw us returning arms loaded with bags. We got back to our room to an array of French pastries and my favourite – macarons from Choix – the Patisserie downstairs. This was just an itsy bitsy taster for what lay in store for us at the Michelin starred Refletts Par Pierre Gagnaire that we were to enjoy a 3 course menu at later on our stay.
We loved our stay at the Intercontinental Dubai Festival City and would go back in the blink of an eye. What about you? Where have you stayed in Dubai? Where would you like to stay?
