Our favourite Goa beaches and how you can discover yours

I’m a beach kind of girl. Always have been. Obviously I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve been to Goa over the years, since it’s always been the go-to weekend beach destination for Mumbaikars such as us. A lot of Goa has changed over the years, and with it so have our favourite haunts. But there are some beaches that will always remain special to us.

Our favourite Goa beaches

Morjim was quiet, calm and relatively unexplored when we first discovered it. We stayed at the beautiful Ku just off the main beach, visited in the off season and went for long walks on the beach, seeing nobody but the odd stray dog taking a nap in the sun. If you know how crowded Goa can get, you know just how special it is.

Vagator was a favourite during the party heydays. Always bursting with thumping music and crowded with tranceheads, this was also a wonderful place to wake up, and smell the salty sea in the breeze that would come in over the cliffs.

This one’s an old faithful. No matter how many times we return to this rocky beach with it’s welcoming shacks, it’s the sort of place you can literally forget all about the time and day.

Baga was once lovely. It still is in the off season. I wouldn’t venture anywhere near there in the season time anymore though. It’s just the kind of crowds you want to avoid when on holiday.

Bogmalo’s relatively unknown. And I like that it is. There’s a nice resort we’d frequent when I was a kid, and it’s a lovely place to welcome the rains.

Palolem is the new popular kid on the block, with many opting for this over the old haunts of Baga and Candolim. I’ve been here a few times during the advertising festivals and it is a lovely spot for dinner and drinks in the sand with large groups.
